Sometimes its the little things, ignored that get us into trouble. While cleaning the boat a couple of days ago, I noted the plastic cover for the mast lighting deck connector was shot (only lasted nine years).
For those of us who trailer, keeping the connector covered is important and an aspirin bottle top fits great, snaps on but is not difficult to remove...perfect (if it will survive a little UV).
Arlyn, I guess we will just have to replace the aspirin bottle every couple of years just to get the cap. I guess I need someone to tell me what an aspirin bottle cap does that suffers from too much UV exposure. I lost my cover also and just taped it over. Good Idea Arlyn.
If it behaves like most of the caps I've seen, it will get brittle very quickly. Maybe they have a different formula now, but I'm going with past experience until I hear differently.
The aspirin is only good for a year or so once you've opened it. It usually has a faint sour smell when new, but If it smells like vinegar it's no good & needs replacing.
I never had the real cap. I found that a twist-off cap from a gallon milk jug fits. The last one made it through the winter lay-up. That's one less headache, so I haven't bought any aspirin.
