Looking to replace my mainsail that is of the 86 vintage (I do not think the PO updated) What is the weight and type of fabric you recommend to replace said sail. I sail in Corpus christi Bay area with winds at 12 to 20 regularly with gusts common to 25. I also am cruising at this point and may try my hand at friendly racing in the future. Thanks as always... Dan 86 fin keel / tall rig.
Also, while i am at it, what do you suggest for fabric and weight of the 110 jib? thanks again.
The Ullman loose footed, full batten mainsail from CD has a cloth weight of 6.53 oz which should be fine in just about any conditions you'll face. Not sure about the jib's weight, but I think it'll be around 6 oz. CD (Catalina Direct) is a good source, 1-800/959-7245, and can better answer your questions.
I also have a loose footed, full batten main from North Sails. I am transitioning from club racing to cruising on Lake Superior. North made the main with 7.5 oz cloth. I questioned the weight but they insisted I would like it. I do. My 110 was made for 6.5 oz material. Let your sail maker suggest clothe weight. They will know based on their sail design and conditions you'll be sailing in.
If you go the Ullman route just call Gary Swensen at Ullman Ventura direct. He has a lot of experience with c25's and he can tell you exactly what you need. And probably has it in stock too! 805.644.9579.
