I need some help with measurements on my Tall rig for the purchase of a new furling headsail. What is the standard diameter of the forestay? I think mine is 3/16. Does that sound right? Also, what is the pin to pin measurement of the forestay? I was unable (unwilling) to climb up to the top of the mast in winter in northern Idaho to get this exact measurement. By the way, great forum. Thanks for any help you can provide.

The Catalina 25 owner's manual rigging chart says the Tall Rig forestay is 31'-7", from center of top eye to end of bottom stud. However, to buy a roller furling sail, you need the luff measurement recommended by the manufacturer of the furling system. This is because each furler has different total length from the top of the slot in the foil to the top of the drum. For example, if you are installing a Cruising Design Flex Furler (the most popular model on Catalina 22's and 25's), you need to complete the installation, so that you will know what the finished cut length of the foil extrusion is, before you order a sail. Once the furler is fully adjusted to fit your boat, you can measure the length of the slot in the foil. On my boat, the maximum luff length for a headsail is about 30'. Remember that sails may stretch a little over their life, so it might be wise to order the sail a couple of inches shorter than the maximum possible, to allow for this stretch.

Depending upon from whom you are going to purchase your new sail, you may not need the dimensions. I bought a 150 genoa for a SR a few years ago from National Sails...when the salesman found out it was for a C25, he told me it was in stock. It came on time and fit fine. www.nationalsail.com

I just purchased a Schaeffer Snap-Furl from North Sails and am having my 150 and 110 head sails modified to fit. North offered to set the whole system up for me if I would send in my headstay.....for free. Couldn't pass up that deal.
