Does anyone have an idea of the current draw (amperes) for the starter on an typical (if there is any such thing) 8hp outboard? I need to rewire the power cable on my new Yamaha T8 next weekend (due to the motor mount change), and I would like to put either a switch or circuit breaker in the line.

A circuit breaker would be ok but not a switch. I am not an expert, but have been told by my mechanic that the starter wires also charce the battery and neet to be connected to a load at all times or the charging circuit would be fried. Might be worth asking your dealer's mechanic.
