Convert from the Edson sheethed cables and eliminate the associated play and drag as well as double the steering ratio thereby solving the torque issues notable on the 250.
One owner's comment, "I can finally back up with enough speed to have control and not be overcome by torque." Several others have commented that the "conversion exceeded their expectations".
Finally a precise, easy to steer helm is available. The upgrade resolves the design shortcomings of both the push/pull and pull/pull Edson systems.
Arlyn helped me with this on my boat. He not only modified his design to fit my non-Catalina he sent me specific directions for installation, in addition to his standard directions with illustrations.
The steering on my boat was basically non functional when I got it so I can't make a fair comparison to its before state but it sure works nicely now. I like that fact that I can fix any part of it myself with materials I can get here locally. I made one modification from Arlyn's kit. He supplies saddles to secure the cables to thimbles and I bought a swaging tool and swaged the fittings on. Installation was pretty straight forward.
