My CDI Furler (ff4) doesn't have the ball bearing feature. I understand it makes quite a difference in furling the headsail during heavy air. Can the standard furler be upgraded? Has anyone done it? Where is a good place to get the upgrade if available? Thanks for any help that can be given.

I believe it can be done easily. Check Cruising Direct for pricing. I ordered mine with the ball bearings from the outset so I can not offer any input on how much difference it makes. I believe others on this forum has done so and liked the difference it made. When reefing my headsail I still need to head up to take some pressure off the sail while easing the sheet to keep it from flogging.
We upgraded Orion to ball bearing last year. Made a GREAT difference and I recommend it absolutely without reservation, good luck, ron srsk #2343 SW FL
Anyone replace the halyard on their CDI furler? Did you purchase a replacement from CDI, or make your own? I was intending to purchase the replacement line, but then recalled it has a ferrule installed on the original halyard. Where would I find a replacement ferrule? And how do you crimp or install it on the replacement line?
Not sure if we're talking about the same thing, but my (very old) CDI furler has what is essentially a stainless steel heavy paper clip kind-of-thing that attaches the feeder line to the halyard. The wire of the clip is pushed through the halyard line 1/4" up from the whipped end and the thin feeder line just has a loop tied through the "paper clip"
John, Thanks for the info, but mine must be different. This is a ferrule (a small cylinder) clamped around the line approximately 2 feet from the end of the halyard.
