I want to remove the box that holds the propane tank in the starboard locker. I am installing an alcohol stove so there is no need for it. All the attachments came off fine. The problem is the electrical connection. A wire runs through the box and attaches to a black donut object that fits on a stainless steel shaft. I don't want to cut the wire, because the next owner might want to use the propane. Is there a way to open that black donut and disconnect the wires?
I checked today and it does not appear to be threaded. I couldn't figure out if it comes apart. My plan is to cut it. Nothing else seems to be an option.
Seaward told me the black donut in the propane locker is a solenoid. They also said that it only has a 12" pig tail. I found where it joins the other wire and cut it there. Then I removed the entire unit from the starboard locker.
I installed an Origo 2000 alcohol stove where the Seward propane stove was. It is a very tight fit and required moving the water to the right side and using the same model pump as the head uses.
I gained the use of the starboard locker and a safer stove. I gave up a hotter stove. I think the trade off was well worth it.
