This has been recommended several times on this forum. I've tried searching, but because most times it is mentioned in the text of the message, the search times out. Even google seems to come up with unrelated stuff.
Questions: Is this a name brand of antiseize compound? Where can it be purchased? Is it different than the compounds sold in auto supply stores? I couldn't find it at West Marine or Defender, though West Marine sells a compound by Starbrite, the description of which sounds exactly like the stuff I was looking at in the automotive supply store; i.e. high temperature. I want to use this on my stainless steel hardware that I am replacing on my motor mount.
Thanks for any clues.

Permatex Anti Seize Compound, a little dab will do ya. Sometimes you gotta get away from products associated with the words "marine use" . I have used permatex on airplanes, helicoters, cars, boats whatever and never had a seizure problem. I think I bought it in Walmart's several years ago.

has Never-seez which is a large can with a brush on cap for 10 bucks. I have a can of this and it has lasted a long time. Best used for large bolts. I also coated all of my trailer lug nuts with this. Also, check out their website, and get their catalog. They are an incredible source for trailer parts, brakes, stainless fasteners, and they also have a great technical section. Send for their free catalog. Their tech/sales reps are great.

You can also find similar stuff at auto parts stores

You should always use some kind of anti-seize compound on your stainless bolts to prevent "galling" which means that the bolt will seize up permanantly. the slightest bit of contamination, or cross threading, or burrs will start this process, and then you are permanantly screwed yuk yuk

With regard to using Never-seez on lug nuts. Quite a few years ago my 3-star Admiral boss asked me to move his boat from the marina to his house. No big deal for my overpowered suburban....I'll do it during lunch. I got to within 200 yards of his house turning on to his street when the left side wheels fell off. Fortunately, I had been driving very slowly from the marina, but unfortunately I didn't feel any wheel vibrations before the wheels fell off.

The admiral told me that since he had such a hard time removing the lug nuts when he changed tires, he used an anti-seize compound. I don't know if he did not properly torque the nuts. I neglected to check them before making the 5 mile trip from the marina to his house. Ever since then I have been careful about checking lug nuts on my trailer, but I don't use never-seez either.

Thanks for the heads up Steve.
I torqued those puppies down really tight though. I'll check them often. They were tough to get off with the salt intrusion.

I've lubed the threads on my lugnuts for the last 35 years or so. Haven't seen a lugnut come loose... ever. All bets are off if they didn't get torqued properly in the first place.

you should consider the Nickel Never Seez product if your in/around salt water.

I learned about corrosion and dissimilar metal "welding" together when I went through my VW and Corvair dune buggy phase twenty years ago.

It will absolutely stop stainless fasteners into aluminum from seizing.

I have used it with steel and stainless into aluminum, bronze into steel and aluminum on aluminum.

I prefer to buy the little tubes, about four inches long so I can keep one in my tool box on the boat and one at home. Easier to carry aloft, too.

Now, I am restoring a '60 Vespa...everything gets a dose.
