My Garmin gpsmap 176c had a problem with locking on to the satellites, and staying locked on. I suspected that the movable antenna had a corroded contact. The factory rep didn't tell me how to remove it, but I had to send it in for a $175 checkout. They removed the antenna and cleaned the contacts, but not much else. Now it works perfect. If you look at your antenna it has tabs which line up when you rotate it and then you can pull it off. I suggest you clean the contacts with CRC and then coat it with dielectric grease, and save a 175 dollar repair bill (plus shipping)
