My mast is now down so I need advice on conversion to cockpit controls for my halyards, both jib and main.

How long and what diameter is correct to go to the cockpit for each halyard?

All rope or wire and rope- Advantages and disadvantages.

Thanks

I ran my halyards back to the cockpit.. each had a working length (tail end to pre-spliced eye and shackle) of 65'. Material was 5/16" Sta-SetX line.
On a standard rig, 65' turned out to be a perfect length.

Note: At the time, Sailnet was selling pre-fabricated halyards of that length for a reasonable price... haven't checked to see if they still are.
