I am adding a topping lift this season and wondering what kind of block, adjustable, I would useto connect the end of the boom (attachment point next to the outhaul hole) to the wire from the masthead????
Hey Jim, There seems to be lots of approaches described. I went with the simple approach (my favorite). I fixed the line on the end of the boom, ran it through a 1/4" block on the masthead and down to a clam cleat on the mast. Eventually I'll bring it aft. It flies loose most of the time. The only time I need it is when I reef. The rigger I consulted suggested I tie a stopper knot (at the cleat end) where it is in its normal position so that when I'm done reefing I can just release the line and it will stop at the knot.
Oh, yeah.. if you are installing a block on the masthead don't forget to put some seizing wire through the bolt eye so it won't loosen and fall out.
