I have reviewed the past A-Frame threads, all of the ones I found are made from metal tubing. We need an A-Frame for a one-time repair lowering (lights and maybe wiring, halyards). I am trying to see if a 2x4 frame will survive the one lower and one raise. Any views would be appreciated.
My A-frame is made of 12 foot long pressure treated 2 x 4's. I have used them for 3 years for multiple raisings and lowerings. They are heavy though. I recently purchased cedar (which is way lighter)2 x 4's to make new ones, and will give the old ones to another member of Fleet 89
I used a single 2x4x8' to lower my mast on the 250. It was notched at each end to keep it from shifting. However I do use the temporary stays that came with the boat to keep the mast from falling sideways. A bridle was run up the mast to the spreaders and from there down through a block attached with a snap shackle to the stem and then to the jib sheet winch. It worked really well both lowering and raising.
