I have ordered a new turning ball (yes and cable too. Since I learned how to post photos I thought I'd bore y'all with a picture.
If I understand the process correctly, I can use a punch and lightly tap the pin out with a hammer that holds the turning ball in place?
Am I right?
My (old) turning ball had the appearance of ferro-cement but in a place where it was worn I could tell it is brass (or bronze, I dunno, I was looking at the blonde next to me in chemistry). Anyway, it did still turn easily, but I'm going to replace it.
if you look at the photo closely, you can see a meathook on the cable.

Worked for me... however some people have reported that their turning ball pins were glassed (or gooped) in place and needed some extra work to get them out.
