In reading a post on the 25 specific forum, I read about a knot I hadn't heard of before, so I googled it and found the following website;
http://www.grogono.com/knot/index.php
I just thought I would pass along something I found useful.
Cheers,
Chris

Ok, I have to post the classic response... borrowed/slightly altered from the ancient Mac/Venture BBS system... back in the days when 2400 baud dialup was fast.

Ok, here it is... (drumroll)

If it's a knot website, then what is it? (rimshot)

Well, it was funny back then. You have to be kind of a geek to grok it.
Ok, I won't post anymore tonight.

I had these animated knots in my favorites but yours seems much more updated.

As a sailor I thought I knew my knots until I took the National Ski Patrol's Mountaineering course. We learned from several partollers who were also climbers and the knots they used were.....well I guess when it's your life on the end of the rope (yeah I know, but climbers use rope) there is by planning a lot of redundency. We had to bring a "victim" up a steep embankment from a deep gully and the stokes basket was secured in what I could only interpret as hurricane level knotting. But hey It's bad form to drop the patient.

SailNet has a few articles (http://www.sailnet.com/collections/seamanship/seamanship/index.cfm). SHeck out "Marlinspike Arts" in the middle of the page.

Speaking of which, does anybody make a marlinspike <u>without</u> a knife?

Yes, I believe Mako sells a set that the knife and spike are separate. Sometimes the spike is referred to as a “fid”. Although a "fid" can also refer to a blunt pointed tool that is for releasing shackles.
