The stove in my 79 C25 seems original. The performance is horrible, with the unit firing on and off at a rate of four or five cycles per second. If there is one thing that I enjoy more than sailing it is cooking. Is this unit worth repairing, or should I procede to another option?
I agree with Frank. Stand by for a little price shock though. I've already tossed my "curtain burner" and have been saving for a two-burner Origo. Maybe next year. In the mean time I'm using a propane camp stove. It works fine but isn't gimballed and doesn't quite fit where the stove goes, with the bottle attached. Making coffe at anchor is a tenuous experience.

I converted my original equipment (Princess?) pressure alcohol stove to propane. It wasn't difficult or expensive. I'm very pleased with the results. There should be instructions for doing the conversion around here on the website somewhere...
I'm still using my Princess stove with alcohol. There's for sure an 'acquired touch' for lighting it properly, but once you get the hang of it, it's really not too bad.
As far as the the 'pulsing' issue, you might try cleaning your burners & valves. I back-flushed mine with some carb cleaner, then blew dry with compressed air. (this was with the stove out of the boat and disassembled). Also make sure there's no water mixed in the alcohol from condensation. (i.e. dump the fuel and refill)
One of these days I'll probably convert mine to propane too, mainly for the sake of convenience and the for the greater heat output of propane. It's a slow pot of coffee with an alcohol flame.
I think the Optimus-Princess stove is a keeper! Its all about the lighting. You got to prime it. I found all the info I needed by calling Bob at A&H enterprises. www.packstoves.com They sell rebuild Kits and even new burners. I rebuilt one side and put a new burner on the other. They both burn very well with out the pulsing.
Thanks for the parts link. I will probably try the nozzle fix until Santa or good fortune brings something else. I would love to also have an oven. Around here you often prefer to keep the heat in the cabin.
