From a SetSail.com list server email: ------------------------------------- To the SetSail Community:
We are excited to announce something brand-new: The SetSail Ropes Program!
This is a revolutionary new way to buy cordage. We have put together a grouping of only the finest available ropes. You buy in quantity, the rope is shipped directly to you from the manufacturer, and you enjoy significant discounts (typically 40% to 55% off retail price).
We buy large quantities of rope for our yachts, and we¹ve always been amazed at the difference between our costs buying direct, and the pricing in the marine stores even those that sell ³wholesale² to the public. A few months ago we were talking about this, and an idea formed. Why not make the same deals available to the SetSail family? We get such good prices because we purchase in full rolls (typically 600'/184m), and the manufacturers know that we represent a lot of business. Yet SetSailors could also buy in full rolls. If they were to organize their needs to buy in quantity, like we do, they could enjoy huge savings.
We are very excited about this concept. Rope has never been sold like this before, and it fits perfectly with the mission at SetSail.com to find innovative products and new, efficient ways to offer them to the cruising community.
We approached our friends at Yale Cordage (Yale has been the primary supplier on our personal yachts as well as client builds for over 20 years) and they were also intrigued. The end result is that we have worked out a deal to make their highest quality ropes available to sailors on SetSail.com.
The prices are low, and the quality is the best you can get, anywhere.
We've also posted a new 13-page article from Steve Dashew on Specifying and Buying Running Rigging. Whether or not you're shopping for rope, you may want to download and check out this article. (The above pages have links to the article.)
We hope you'll stop by and take a look around!
Best regards, The Crew at SetSail
