Can anyone who currently uses a vang tell me where they attach to the mast and boom? I have a vang for my 250, but there is currently no attachment points on either mast or boom.

I have a WK #408 and there are attachment points on my mast and boom. One thing that I found helpful was to take off the fitting from the block that is meant to be used to jam the line. Then I brought the line back to the cockpit and use a line stopper to lock the vang line. That way I don't have to go to the mast to use the vang.

Tom, the boom attachment is a twist shackle exactly as with the mainsheet but of course considerably forward of the main...look for a hole in the protrusion channel on the bottom of the boom.

The mast attachment is via an eye which slides in the mast slot (groove) that has two locking screws for adjustment of placement. It is possible that it has been removed or that the wing keel does not ship that way but rather uses an eye on the mast base plate.

Unless things have changed, the Garhaur supplied vang block with cam suffers a poor cam angle when mounted either boom or mast end. Play with both to find the one that suits best. An alternative is to modify the angle of the cam slightly on the block.

The upper right picture shows the current position (round hole drawn on masking tape and the moved to position. I went too far. Instead of removing the mount to the far side of the old mounting hole, remove materiel just up to the hole (about half of what I did should do it).

This change provides an easy to set vang and one which can be slapped free when the cam block is mounted at the boom end.

It may be hard to see in this picture, but its just like Arlyn said. Twist shackle on the boom and an eye in the mast slot.
