The teak access hatch at the aft end of the starboard quarterberth on "Great Escape" has proven unaccessable. I assume one normally lifts the hatch upward and pulls the bottom inward, but shy of applying enough pressure for something (teak, fiberglass, me)to break I have been unsuccessful, although one of the two vertical members just clears with a little force. I also assume that gaining access will allow me to check/replace the lower rudder gudgeon. Any thoughts/suggestions? I am not sure even how the hatch could have been installed. I considered shaping and slipping a hacksaw blade up behind the teak to shorten the vertical member causing the problem, but thought it best to consult your combined experiences first. Thanks in advance.
Don't recall having this problem. usually it's a lift and pull situation. Since the hatch goes in axactly opposite of coming out, give it a good pull. Heck, it's only wood.
You'r correct. It gives you access to the lower gudgeons.
Maybe it has swelled? Been jammed by some PO? Mine comes out easily, sounds like something a bit wrong rather than a fixed unit. Keep tinkering, Fair winds, ron srsk Orion SW FL
