In a few other threads people have been discussing the prices of various hard woods. I wanted to get the teak eybrows from catalina direct they have in their book for $28. I called them up and found that the price for two shipped 1.5 hour drive south cost $115 now. The price of Teak has goen up. They were not offended at all when I declined the deal. CD is a great company with tons of information and usefull stuff. Went to home depot and got some oak base board I ripped to 1" and angled the ends. Put my first coat of Cetol (OK start that thread again) this evening. On another thought We got a 1 ton pickup today. Anyone else in CA or nearby going to Hunnington lake in July. We will be there for the second week end of racing.
I've found teak lumber and veneer on ebay that seems to be quite reasonable although I haven't exactly bought any yet. When you do a search on ebay for it, type in "teak lumber", because if you don't you will get a lot of unwanted listings. Check this out. http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult& ht=1& SortProperty=MetaEndSort& query=TEAK lumber
I'll be at Huntington Lake then. I slip there all summer. Hope to splash by May 27th. Stop by and visit. We're in #7 on the Bakersfield dock (center east set). Will you be racing?
I replaced the hatchboard rails, on a C22 I had, with oak. Finished them with a Varithane (Liquid Plastic) And they came out great and still look good. Cost was about $20. Teak was way too high priced and that was in 1998. Don't get me wrong, I love the look and durability of teak but I think any hard wood would work well, it just might need more attention. I had a tiller break on a laser and was able to replace it with a shovel handle for $5. It was supposed to be a temporary fix but is still in service 15 years later.
Will take a look in e-bay. I try and stay out of there, because it always cost me too much. We will for the second week end of the race. Hoping to head up on Wed or Th. and come back home on Monday. We havent made reservations yet, but will call this week. Just got the 1 ton truck today and weren't sure we would be able to get there with our jeep GC. The drive to SF I took last month made me think more than once about not wanting to drive up to Huntington with the jeep. Since we have a 2 tear old, with a nervious mom, we will probably get a cabin. Last year we got one, I forget the name, at the lodge where they have the dinner dance. If I can get a slip will try and get it there too. My Santant 21 was the official race boat for LYSA (Lake Yosemite Sailing Association) last year and I think we will do it again this year. I don't know though, last year my boat smelled like a brewery and I didn't even have a beer. see you there
Teak is $12.00 a board foot at Frost Hardwood in San Diego. Quality of Teak today is not nearly as good as it was 17 years ago when I paid $3.00 a BF do do bathroom and kitchen cabinets. One of the reasons I bought a '79 Cat 25 is the teak interior.
