My boat had a split backstay when I bought her, but no backstay adjuster. I bought a backstay adjuster over the winter, but there's no place to tie the line to.
Would this product, available at WM work? I would simply attach this cleat to either leg of the split backstay, tie a small diameter line to the backstay adjuster, than tie it off to the cleat. No muss, no fuss.
I had a cleat like that on my shroud for a flag halyard. The problem is that there could be a possibliity of wire damage if you make it too tight. The new versions, like you showed just have the nylon clamping on the wire so I don't think much will happen. I had an older one that had a screw appling pressure to the wire. The latter kind could cause problem by damaging wires. Also they both cause water to accumulate, over time this could cause corrosion if it is salt water. Hope this helps.
There is no visual reference as to the thickness of the rod or tubing this cleat is attached to. Most "shroud cleats" are really designed for light lines and light loads, such as flag halliards, pig sticks, steaming signals, etc.....Ron srsk Orion sw FL
I use the fairleads on the transom mounted traveler cam cleats. Stock rigs use the space between the clevis on the backstay at the tang and the top of the swagged fitting slot. They attach a shackle there, then attach the purchase to the shackles. The fiddle at one side than the turning block on the other.
I would say no - you'll be putting a considerable load on that line and cleat, which in turn will be transferred to the shroud where you attach the cleat. You'll want to run something similar to what Frank did with the cleat attached to a fiddle block set up.
