Hi All, Just a question of oppinion, service speed and quality. has anyone got a sail from Crusing Direct or the Sail Warehouse. If so what are your views on them. I am intersted in a new main.
I got a 135 and a cruising spin from CD last year. I am happy with both sails. They are North designs and made in Sri lanka. I am sure they are not up to the Ulman quality, but for the $$$$.
Matt, I ordered a Doyle main from catalinaowners.com last year. I had it cut to a special size because I was installing a bimini on my tall rig. I'm very happy with the result and the price.
I have a UK Sailmaker's mains'l and it appears to be top quality. This loose-footed UK main has all the bells and whistles with 4 battens (1 full, 3 partial).
This UK sail came with four different battens, each with a different taper and stiffness and each must go into a specific pocket (I hope I never lose one over the side! ) whereas my old main simply had interchangeable, generic battens that could be inserted into any pocket and in any direction.
Hey Don, My new Ullman full batten loose footed main has 4 different sized battens. They are not tapered. Back in my windsurfing days, the battens on those sails were tapered to get more curvature next to the mast. I had no trouble getting good sail shape on my Ullman on my Keys trip.
I just looked at catalina direct. What was the delivery time for the ullman sails, or any others that anyone got? When I got my Doyl genny the wait time was exceptionally long, at least it seemed that way to me.
do an internet search for Ullman Ventura and you can get Gary Swenson's phone number. If he has a sail in stock, it won't be long. You can also check if Lowell has one in stock. I bought mine direct from Gary, he didn't haveitin stock, and then he added a second reef, in all it took about 5 weeks. He has them sewn in Hong Kong but sends them the fabric and computer generated plans. He also built me a riding sail for 85 bucks which works great. Frank
