For many of their models, C&C builds two versions, a racing and cruising version. The racing versions have deeper keels. Mine is the cruising version. I don't know whether C&C builds keel/centerboard boats, but Tartan and Sabre and other good builders do.

Hey Steve I know you were thinking of Tartan at one time. Did you look at any? What changed your mind? Mostly curious cause I really like the 3100.

The Tartans that I looked at (and could afford) were old 37s and were mostly dark inside and looked dated. Many showed signs of soft decks and similar problems. Tartans have an outstanding reputation, but the ones that I could afford just didn't "speak to me."

When you're in the market for a boat, there's no substitute for setting foot on lots of decks. When you go on board, you get a visceral feeling for whether you would be comfortable spending a lot of time on a boat. When I first saw my C&C 35 on the hard, before I even boarded her, I liked her lines and her general condition. When I looked inside, she had a nice, clean, open, comfortable salon. When she passed her survey and we agreed on a price, that clinched it.

I'm still learning how to sail her, but in the light to moderate winds that I have sailed her so far, she sails like a dream.

I understand Tartan Yachts and C&C Yachts are under one ownership, and they both have very good reputations.

Thanks Steve. Planning on being in Hampton/Norfolk, VA around Aug.14-15 to drop my daughter off at her grandmothers. Any chance of you being that far south in the bay then?

I'm not planning that far ahead, Ray. Check with me when it's closer to that time. In any event, it's only about a 3 hour drive from that area to St. Leonard, just north of the Solomon's, where I keep the boat, and it's just a nice day's sail across the Bay to Oxford and other venues.
