I recently purchase a vang from cd. I was sent just parts and no directions. I know the basic principles of how it works and is rigged except for the thru bolt through the mast and the boom. I know there is a mast wire running internally. My question, is that wire "tide back" from the center of the mast so I do not cut it when drilling through? Also I have heard that 45 degrees of angle is proper is this true?

Rather than drill more holes in the mast you could use a bail. A u shaped piece of matal like a huge U bolt that attaches at each side of the mast at the mast to mast plate bolt.

Yes they sent the bails..I looked at other c25s in the marina, looks like they were installed with the bolt above the mast plate. Again my question is about the wiring in the mast is it tide back out of the center I would rather not step the mast..

thanks.. Jonathan T Barrett

My vang is attached to the mast bolt which is about 5 or 6 inches below where the wiring enters the mast.

If your mast bolt is in place, chances are that it is well below your wiring also.

Just this past weekend, I increased the purchase on my vang to 6:1.

... and your mast will not fall down if you take the bolt out, add the bail and put the bolt back in. You may need a hammer and a block of soft wood to whack the mast base to line it up so the bolt extracts easily, but other than that it is a non event.
