I need to replace the LCD display for the depth sounder which is mounted cockpit mounted with a 4 inch cut out. I spoke with Std Hplacemorizon and they no longer have parts for the DS-1 display. Anyone know where I could get A) Replacement LCD B) Replacement display with 4 inch cutout like a DS-45,or C) Replace with a newer style display and get an adapter to fit in the existing 4 inch hole. Thanks!
When my old Std Horizon depth/speed instruments were destroyed by lightning a few years ago I bought the new Std Horizon models because they no-longer made the DS 1 series or the parts to repair them. The upgraded instruments fit very nicely in the existing 4" holes. I was very fortunate in that Std Horizon was offering a "manufacturers cost" deal on trade-ins at the time. I was so impressed that I now use Std Horizon products exclusivley - except for my Simrad autopilot, which I also got a great deal on.
Make a nice 'pad' out of 7/16" teak to cover the area... and mount your new instrument(s) in that. A little bit of nice teak there really dresses up the cockpit.
Last spring, I replaced a broken Signet speed log with a Standard Horizon SL45 unit. The only problem I had was the new SL45 required a 4" cutout, but the existing hole from the old Signet instrument was almost 5". I felt that since the new display was only about 1/8" larger than the hole, the 1/2" rubber gasket wouldn't have enough surface area to make a good seal so I made the hole smaller by epoxying a 1/2" spacer ring inside the hole and flush with the outside surface. This inner ring allowed better contact with the rubber gasket of the new display and so far (knock on wood) no leaks.
Hey Jesse, Mine is cracked as well. I got this a few months ago. Call Steve. He will "fix you up". You can get a replacement from him for about $50 bucks. First of all i will follow this with his address and phone number, below that is what he e-mailed me as far as specific pricing and such.

-------------e-mail from Steve at Data Marine -------------------------- Hello Dan,
Great to hear the word is still around on our service. Two ways we can go here. One is we have the replacement LCD priced at $50.00. You can disassemble your instrument, unplug the old LCD and plug in the new one. Or, you can send your S200DL to us for a full evaluation and service. Along with replacing the LCD, we will check the display circuit to make sure there is a problem that caused the LCD to fail, tune the transmit and receiver gain circuit. Replace any hardware that may be corroded and bring your S200DL back to new condition again. Generally The cost for a full repair is around $125.00, anything over $100 we will call you with an estimate before proceeding. If you find that you will need to return the unit to us for evaluation, the following is our return policy. You can ship the unit to our Customer Service Department (at the address below). Include with the instrument a letter containing the model and serial numbers of everything you have sent us, your return address, your phone number, M/C, AMEX, Discover or Visa number, and an explanation of the problem you are experiencing with the unit. If the repair is less than $100 per instrument, we will automatically repair the unit (s) and bill your credit card account number included in your letter. If the estimate is over $100, we will contact you before performing the repair. In the event you decide not to have the repair done, there is a $34 bench charge per instrument. All units will be returned by UPS ground service unless specific shipping instructions are included in your letter.
Thanks for the help, Steve referred me to Commercial Marine Electronics, but so far no luck. The depth Sounder is a DS-1 from Standard Horizon. I hope I can find parts or replace with a DS-45. Unfortunately Standard Horizon is getting out of the instrument business. Bset Regards,
I had to wait till the job was done but here is what I did.
My big old sounder was cracked and leaking into the quarter berth. I removed it and put in a deck plate cover that glued into the hole.
I was recently searching ebay and found a DS1 "new old stock" and waited . I bid at the last minute and got it for $25 including shipping! I put it in today and it did not work! I remenber the rca connector being loose when I plugged it in so I took it apart and found the connecter was loose on the circuit board. A few minutes with the pocket torch and viola! I now have a depthsounder.
With all the destroyed boats lying around florida, It is only a matter of time before another pops up. Now I can see how deep the murky water is in this river.
If it is your lens that is cracked, perhaps you could disasemble the instrument and have a new piece of glass made. All the guts come out of it by removing a big snapring on the back.
I replaced my sounder with a 5 inch teak pad cetol'd to match the other teak, then drilled a 2 1/4 inch hole and put a hawkeye depth guage in. Looks good, as I was unable to find a repalecment of the original without too many BU's involved
I tried to use DMI and feel like they just blew me off. I got the gauge back at no charge but I got no comunication what so ever as to what to do with them. I Emailed them several times and got nothing. Guess they are just too busy for the Catalina jobs. Not sure what to do other than find something different. I like to keep things original so I sure would like the original one fixed.

I can't remember exactly who I talked with at Signet, but a year or so ago I looked into getting my malfunctioning Signet knotlog LCD display fixed and was told that it wouldn't be prudent to have the older Signet display repaired. Signet did offer me a credit on a newer model, but I opted for the Standard Horizion SL45 to match my depth sounder.
