Anyone buy a boat in Canada and bring it back?
Curious about the Tax & duty situation.
We've found that there's not a lot off catalalin 30 pr 34s available in the Sound, and may have to move one in from elsewhere.

One of the people in my sailing club bought an Island Packet 35 in Sidney, BC, in 2003. There used to be a loophole in California's tax laws that meant that you could buy a boat in Mexico or Canada, and then move it to California after a certain period of time (90 days, I think it was), and not have to pay California Sales Tax - which could be as much as $15000 for a typical 34'~36' sailboat (Catalina 36 for example). Unfortunately that loophole was closed last January 1st.
