Is anyone with a C25 or C250 planning to cruise anywhere, or planning to do some racing someplace, in Southern California this coming July or August? Haven't heard from anyone near San Diego doing these things.....ever..... What about the Long Beach people? What's happening this summer? Surely there must be groups of Catalina 25/250 people around here someplace. Gary Norgan Hemet, CA
We go to Catalina Island as often as we can. Catalina Yachts will most likely hold their annual Rendezvous at Two Harbors in July (about 100 boats). Also, lots of day trips out of LA Harbor.
My wife and I have done the Rendevous 3 times already...might be interested again this year. My C25 has been on the trailer for over a year...been busy with teaching, teenagers in high school (son, daughter), and a heart problem, etc. Now interested in sailing again so will be launching my '89 in Perris Lake this Saturday (finally) and will keep it there in a slip for awhile. We might be interested in doing Catalina with a group of 25 folks. Also would like to know if anyone is still racing somewhere in Long Beach Harbor or elsewhere that you know of. Finding slips anywhere in SoCal seems to be very difficult these days. Know of any good places nearest my location (Hemet, by Riverside) that I should call? Also, need good advice on where to launch, if I can find a slip to rent. Is it my imagination or has all the C25 / C250 people disappeared from places like Long Beach?
Just got a possible line on a 30 foot slip for the summer....at Long Beach YC. My neighbor (sails a Santana 2023 WB) has a sister who has a larger sailboat that she and husband take out to a mooring at Forth of July Cove from June to August and leave it there. They take the ferry to/from Catalina instead of sailing. They then sail the rest of the year in the harbor, etc. Bottom line, this slip just remains empty and they thought it might be "nice if someone were to occupy it" during the summer..... Soooooo, why not my boat, I says, and he says he'll ask...soooo just maybe we've found a slip when there appeared not to be any around. Probably pay $300/month but might be worth it for 2 months to do this in Alamitos Bay at the LBYC? From here Long Beach Harbor and Catalina....YES!! Gary Norgan Hemet
Just launched this afternoon at Lake Perris. I just needed to get the boat wet and do lots of sailing.....we were tired of the 2 hour drives to go sailing on our boat. Now it takes 20 minutes on an easy drive to the marina. Yes, the powerboats make life difficult but they head home about the time I like to sail...late afternoon until sunset. That's the plan for a few months until my teaching year is over and I can haul the boat down your way for longer trips. Gary in Hemet
Your picture of your boat/kids at Avalon has us thinking again of sailing out to Catalina this summer. Will have to stay in touch on this topic Gary Still in Hemet Boat is floating (?) in Perris

Hi Gary,
Good to hear that you're back in the water, might help with the other problem. I hope so. When in New York and need a sail break check in here.

Hi, Val. I've been reading your input for some years and made some conversation with you, I believe, awhile ago. My wife's family had a big reunion/go see where Dad grew up/went to school/visit their relatives in New York 4 summers ago(98). Came back to CA just in time to get a phone message from a good friend that "I've found your Catalina 25". Bought it within a week and still think it's the best 1989, tall/wing, C25 (traditional interior, etc.) on the CA side of things. Drove up the Hudson visiting lots of old houses like Rockefeller, Roosevelts, etc. Stopped a quite a few marinas looking at C25s, since that was what we wanted to buy. Up past Newburg (my younger brother lived/worked in building sets/acting for awhile there), west to Rochester (Dad's growing up place was there), to Niagra Falls, down /over to the finger lakes region (visited Dad's aunt (98 then)(still alive at last checking), down to Corning (you guessed it...glass museum), back east to Boston and down the coast through Groton, Samford, etc. Saw LOTS of sailboats (by then I needed many such diversions). Fly home and finally got to relax (hated driving on the east coast....hate driving in any big metropolis with all the crazy drivers and packed freeways, etc. Really liked the west New York and Pennsylvania countryside, though. Stayed at some terrific places along the coast south of Boston and ate some of the best (some very expensive) seafood dinners. Quiquags, I think it is spelled, in New Bedford, right on the fishing wharfs. Also got up to Lake George, lots of tourists but what a beautiful place to vacation! And lots of sailboats..... Will go out to the boat after work Wednesday and get the sails out of their bags and set up to go. Finally... and thanks for your concern. Happy sailing. Gary in cold Southern California
Gary, Lordy lordy I've lived seventy plus years in New York and haven't seen one tenth of the places you've been to on vacation. We're thinking of taking a train ride up the New England coast to the Canadian shore and return via cruiseline. Not the same as your tour but the best we can do. Calista's been in the water since early April and I sail her daily but the temperature is a bit much cutting such adventures short. Down here the hard shell clams are called Quahogs...the Colonists best guess as to what the Native Americans called them. Hope you ate them cooked...the threat of hepatitis precludes any other way to consume them, polution ya know. Last year, while sailing, and starving, I bought several dozen quahogs from one of the clammers and ate a dozen raw on the half shell. I've been uneasy ever since. Good typing at ya. Richard, Val, and anyone else: Friday after work, headed out to the local lake...sailed with my wife until sunset on Perris Lake, CA. Winds around 8 - 10 with occasional gust to about 15. Absolutely fantastic. The other boat on the lake was a C22, red hull. Met owner and had a good chat...used to own a C22....now have a new sailing buddy w/wife. Looking to get several other sailboat people together. Talked boat stuff...he wants to get a C25. Noticed about 4 other 25s around so will have to "organize" for some sailing fun. Came home totally relaxed after a week of go, go, go, teaching teenagers in high school. Just have to do this every day! Gary N. Now on fresh water...no swells and no salt spray (might miss it)
