Hello,

I just got my new furler from CD/CDI. I didn't realize
I would have to cut it myself. I figured if I did have
to cut it "they" would tell me WHERE to cut it. So much
for assuming......
Any thoughts before I get out the chainsaw and start
cuttin'?

Thanks,

Tim

Tony, Not a problem,. Have the beer, cut it two more times, place the pieces in the trash, and call CDI and order another expensive foil. This time have a friend with a college education do it for you. ( he's bound to screw it up!)

Eyeball it, then swear up a storm at the company when you do it wrong. Drink 4 or 5 beers, then call CDI to order another

Note to other potential CDI (Cruising Designs) buyers: Catalina Direct sells them sized specifically for the C-25 tall or standard rig (so they say), with various little additions inlcuded in their "kit". I don't know how the price compares--the price in my handbook is probably out of date anyway, and I would expect you'll pay something for the extras and the custom sizing. They know our boats better than most of us do, so it may be a good option.

Just installed the CDI Furler I purchased as a kit from Catalina Direct. The Luff was not pre-cut to the correct length for a SR and I think it was also longer than required for a TR. Measured 3x, laid the old fore stay on top the furler assembly to verify length, etc. Directions from CDI aren't the clearest in the world. Probably written by displaced IBM manual writers.

The old furler is in pieces. Any idea what the correct length
was????

Thanks,

Tim

judging by the slight hacksaw mark on the sail feed end of my luff...the rigger caught himself in the "nick" of time

just put the cdi on my borther's macgregor 26. i was afraid of cutting too much. but if you don't cut enough, you can't lift it to check or tension your forestay turnbuckle. the directions also didnt mention the little fact that you have to shorten the halyard on the end opposite the little metal ferrule if you cut the luff or else you wont be able to pull the sail all the way up and the metal ferrule will hit bottom on the fuler.

Catalina Direct does not sell them cut to size. Which is why
I raised the question. I was able to get the answer from CDI
which is where I should have gone to begin with. Thanks for
the useful posts.

I'd be interested in knowing what CDI told you - does it apply to a std. rig?
