Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, and San Miguel are those islands in the far North, up by Point Conception. San Diego is far south.

OK, here it is. Indiscipline will be leaving Mission Bay Sunday July 31 bound for points north. My plan is to go straight to Catalina on an overnighter (leaving late Sunday night). Fuel up in Two Harbors and overnight. Depending on wind direction, may then go to Santa Barbara Island for an overnight or straight line to Santa Cruz Island. Its about 150 miles Mission Bay to Santa Cruz. The plan should get me into Santa Cruz around Aug 3. I'll then have Aug 3 - 12 to explore. For sure I want to go to the Coches Prieto and Willows anchorages, Painted Cave, and Pelican Bay. If weather is good, I'll make a dash to Santa Rosa Island. If it stays like it was for last year's trip I'll go out to San Miguel as well. San Miguel will be either a day trip or just 1 overnight, don't want to tempt the weather gods that far out.

I will be back in Two Harbors on Aug 13. Amy and her friends will be camping in Two Harbors for Aug 14 - 17. They are taking the channel boat from Long Beach. They have a Two Harbors tent site. I'll be there, hopefully take them for a day sail to Emerald Bay one day. The Baja Ha Ha seminar is Aug 14 at Two Harbors.

Aug 18 I'll be homeward bound, hope to set the spinnaker and run straight back to MB. I expect a total run of 500 to 600 miles on this trip (last year was 323). All single-handed.

This year : taking LESS food, more water, a solar shower. Also doing more sailing at night (to stay out of the sun). Taking a more direct route. I think I'll carry my 60% jib, 110%, roller 135 and spinnaker. I'll be carrying 20 gallons of gas.

Hi Jim,
Becky and I, and an undetermined number of the girls, will be heading to Two Harbors that week also so how about I set it up to depart Oceanside to meet you in transit? We need to be back home on Thursday so we will not be able to continue on to the other islands but if your up for some company at the start of the trip we are game. I would like to moor at Two Harbors for a time and try one of the other more secluded coves (Cherry Cove or Emerald Bay perhaps).

I think Ken and Monica on the S2 may be coming - I hope so.

I would like to make part of that trip too! It would be a great trip to break in my new sails.
You might want to check the Latitude 38 web site I think the seminar is on the 13th.

I'll be there on the 13th to make sure I greet Amy's ship when she arrives on Sunday. Don't really care about the HA HA thing, its just an excuse for a party.

Mike, Joe - I am open on schedule and willing to leave Mission Bay Saturday (or even Friday night), rendevouz in Oceanside, sail to Two Harbors, hang out a day or two and, for me, on to Santa Cruz. Just let me know what you want to do.

Was wondering what size engine you have and your crusing range runing on engine only.
I have an 8hp Honda and a 6 gallon tank and have used it only to get in and out of dock, about 5 minutes each way.
Always top off tank when I get back to the dock,so I have not keep track of useage.

I have the older Honda 8 HP long shaft - the "classic" 80 pound motor.

I get about 10 nautical miles per gallon running at 5 to 5.5 knots.

Last year on my 323 mile round trip I used 15 gallons. That was 15 nmpg combination of motorsailing, motoring, and sailing a couple of hours per day (when the wind was good).

I have a 7 gallon main tank, a 3 gallon reserve tank and I'll be carrying 2, 5 gallon gas cans (for a total of 20).

This year I have 3, 11 watt flexible solar panels (upgraded from 2) which produce about 2.5 amps combined.

Paul... keep in mind that the newer 2001 and later Honda 8 will not get similar fuel economy as Jim gets. My stats are the Classic 8 yielded 2.25 hrs per gal at 5 knots with the newer motor 1.6 hrs per gal.

That means that a six gal tank will yield twenty nautical miles less range on the newer motor.
