Rickexistential sailor and I are sitting over a beautiful bay eating good seafood after a righteous sail. How was your day

One of the first waves of hurricane Dennis is hitting us now...very heavy rains, winds not too bad. Making sure extra lines all the way around. Will get the word from the marina in the morning...2 choices...either they haul you out or you leave the marina. Fantastic sunset with the contrasting black rolling thunderheads moving in...what a beautiful site...and can't believe I left the camera at home.

Just waiting for Dennis to pass by. Fortunately, it appears he's going to stay offshore. We're supposed to get lots of heavy rains and impressive wind gusts but nothing like what we got with Charley. I really feel for those poor folks in the FL panhandle, many, many of whom are still suffering with the after-effects of Ivan.

Even though Dennis will be less threatening than Charley was, I'm not feeling as sure about my boat as last year. The previous C25 had bow, stern and midship cleats plus extra cleats on the coamings aft of the winches. Now I've only got bow and stern cleats and two little halyard cleats on the cabintop. Much harder to rig double lines and spring lines. Guess I'll add "more cleats" to my upgrade list.

Hope everyone in Dennis' path comes through unscathed.

Steve

Justin took my wife and I out on Friday for a nice 5 hour sail of Casco Bay. Not only was it a perfect sail, but Justin is a great skipper and a general all around great guy! His boat, Takokichi is a fine Catalina 25. It was my first time out on one and the stability is amazing. We also got a good look at OceanPlanet which is moored in the area. That was a great addition to our sail. I'm seriously considering moving Swimmer up there if not this season, most likely next.

Watched the Highland Gathering and massing of the pipe bands in Letchworth State Park. (My son is a piper as well as a sailor.)
No motor yet. Can't get out of the marina without one.

Our host and skipper, a very capable and delightful guy

My bride of 24 years, who still makes my heart thump harder, she really enjoyed the sail
