Hi folks,

My schooner trip is coming up soon, in fact I'm leaving July 17th. We're sailing out of Rockport, Maine. Can anyone tell me what we can expect weather-wise, and temperatures? Seeing as it's the middle of summer, how cold will it be? Will swimming in the ocean be an option?

For those interested, we're sailing the Stephen Tabor.

Ben, amazingly enough my grandson and I will be on the "Angelique", the only ketch in the windjammer fleet (contrarian?) and in the schooner parade. Look for an old fat guy and a very tall young man. Maine weather may be very hot or quite chilly in daytime, almost always cool at night on the water, atmosphere often so clear you can see forever, but then there is the famous Maine fog....Who knows? If you can spare the room in your duffel, I'd bring at least one set of sweatshirts, long pants & possibly a light jacket. Better to have 'em and not need 'em rather than the opposite. Ron is right...quite cool on water at night.

Ocean swimming? Depends on what you consider cold water. July 4th weekend, the offshore water temp at 3 pm on a 85 degree day outside of Portsmouth, NH harbor was about 61 degrees. That's too cold for me.
