Hi everyone,

The subject of where to get reasonably priced teak has come up recently. Here is an eBay auction that caught my attention:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem& item=2017820160

This stuff kinda' looks like floor tile to me. I'm not sure what projects this might be good for ('refinish that ugly plastic table?). Maybe some of y'all could use something like it, or you woodworkers out there could make some suggestions to the rest of us as to how it might be used. The ad is a little confusing, but it seems the price is pretty good, and they've got a lot of it.

'Comments?

I have used some Pergo type laminates and they look great but caution—they are not water resistant. The base absorbs moisture and the surface doesn't so they warp and curl. My experience was that after a year the material did lay reasonably flat again, but I wouldn't use it where they was any chance of moisture.

our catalina 250wk came with a teak laminate floor. i was very worried about moisture and scratches when we first bought the boat. but to my delight it has performed well. moisture does not bother it and it NEVER SCRATCHES..and does not stain. so i am sure it would be great to use anywhere inside the boat.

There's a big difference between the teak marine laminate supplied by H & L and Pergo flooring. I'm doing a hot rod woody using teak & holly 4' X 8' panels at a cost of $139 for 3/8" and $149 for 1/2". By the time you paid shipping on the Pergo, you could by some mahogony that would be almost as good as teak.

By the way, I have a Pergo teak floor in an apartment and it does scratch!

i was talking about the teak and holly. and it does not scratch. i suppose if you deliberately tried to scratch it, it might. but 3 years of normal wear and tear and it is perfect.
