Below is my choice for stowing those (in the way) hatch boards. This may not be new to some of you but it's new to me so here you go. It took no additional holes or modification.
If you can't tell the "attachment" is a tie-wrap that has screw holes. I had to cut them down so the screw hole was not so thick. It should hold. If not they are simple to replace.
Not sure where you sail, but I think it's a good idea to keep the lower hatch board pretty close to the cockpit in case conditions deteriorate quickly and there is danger of a knock-down.
