Hi folks. Well the rains in the southeast let up this afternoon and I put my boat back in the water after hauling it out to install lazy jacks made my Harken (150 bucks from rigging only) Very nicely made, I know I could have jacklegged a set together from spare parts and line. I dropped the mast to drill and tap for the fasteners, and yes, I'm a weenie and used an A-frame.
I also have an Ullman full batten main, so I was concerned about the battens hanging up on me. I motored into a cove to get out of the wind, and raised and lowered the main with no trouble. I'll try it in a wind next time to see how it goes.
If the battens hang up, harken suggests that you install a bungee cord, using hog rings to make the end loops, and attach a bungee going from the upper wire out to the end of a spreader to make a wider cradle at top. This sounds like a good suggestion.
I also discovered that you could use the lazy jacks as a topping lift too. Although I'll still keep my topping lift attached as I like to raise the boom way up when I'm using the cockpit for cooking out, or anchoring out. Come to think of it you could even bring in the line on the topping lift to do that too.
My next project will be single line reefing, at least for the first reef point. All of these lines along the boom to route and not tangle up. Just one more additional thing to do when rigging and derigging when I take my boat on vacation.

My full battens will hang up on the (home made) lazy jacks unless I make sure the main streams perectly between them....boom loose and steering properly. Then one eye on the sail and hoist 1,2....NOW....1.2...NOW....untill the third batten is up above the jacks.....

You get used to it.
