For whatever reason, the mast wiring on 0029 is a mess. The mast wiring comes on deck from under the mast tabernacle. The wiring comes through the fiberglass directly under the mast, then follows a channel ground into the fiberglass and exits under the tabernacle in a gob of silicone. The channel, in the fiberglass for the wires, isn’t ground deep enough so it held the tabernacle up at an angle. I suppose this was done to allow lots of water to get under it.

Anyway, I am going to replace all the wire from the electric panel to the top of the mast. One of the wires is open circuit and was replaced with a single conductor ran here and there. That’s gotta go. I am installing one of the West Marine Deck Connectors.

The problem is dead-ending the existing wire. I cannot just pull it out because the running lights and the cabin lights are tied into these circuits and I need them.

Can the wires be dead-ended and buried into the fiberglass with epoxy under the mast tabernacle? I need to do a little fiberglass work there anyway so I was thinking of laying the wires into the channel, in a splayed out fashion and pouring the epoxy on them to keep them there forever.
I would love to pull them out from below, but can’t get to them.
Any other suggestions?

Nothing creative comes to mind here.. I'd cut the bad wires off short on both ends and leave them.

I'm also having mast wiring troubles. I was going to pull the masthead truck and look inside last week, but some wasps had set up housekeeping inside, and they didn't invite me in. I sprayed a little bugspray through the opening at the top of the masthead truck before I left, so I hope they'll have moved out next time I go to the boat.

What kind of wire are you using inside the mast, and where did you get it? West Marine has a 5-conductor bundle that looks similar to what's in the mast now, but they want a mind-boggling $3.49/ft for it. I know that if it says MARINE on it we're supposed to cheerfully pay twice as much, but JEEEZZ!

Have you come across any articles or other information about replacing the wiring inside the mast? So far, I'm just hoping that it was done right the first time and I can just redo it the same way.

I labeled this topic wrong. It should read " Dead-ending wire in epoxy"
I haven't looked into the actual wire that will go up the mast. I need to run new wire to the base of the mast inside the boat.

I was wondering if there is a problem dead-ending the wires in epoxy.

There are many posts with regard to the topic of what wire to run up the mast. If you do a search, you'll find all the answers you need.
