Has anyone made up a velco edged screen to go on the space between the poptop and the cabin top when the pop top is raised? I have a simple velcro edged screen for my front hatch and I love it. I do have a poptop cover with screens in the companionway but would love to make a poptop "screen only" for ventilation on those hot summer nights... Has anyone made one and/or does anyone have a template I could use? Any advice would be great---- Thanks so much!
The plastic windows on my factory (I assume it's factory) pop-top cover zip open and have screens built in behind them for great side-to-side ventilation, but the companionway portion doesn't have a screen. That part is solid and zips shut right down the middle. Sounds like we should combine the best of both of ours.
You might want to consider a simple mosquito net canopy to throw over the entire poptop. They come in a multitude of styles for things like beds, patio umbrellas, camping accessories...etc.
Hi folks. A previous owner of my c25 made a summer enclosure for the poptop and it works great. It's basically a piece of muslin cloth cut the same size at the poptop with no-see-um netting fastened around the edges so the netting drapes down and covers the opening 360 degrees. At the companionway, the netting is cut long so it drapes to the cockpit floor. That part of the netting is slit down the middle and has velcro attached so it makes a kind of makeshift screen "door."
I'm not going to be on the boat for about two weeks, but I'll try to remember to take a picture next time I'm on board and post it. (Actually, my wife is pretty handy with a sewing machine and I might be able to convince her to make some if anyone is interested.)
I bought a net like pictured above for my outdoor table that would be ideal for my pop-top!! I forgot where I bought it (web?) but it has a water-bladder all the way around the bottom that would lie on top of the cabin and "mold" itself to the contours of the side-deck, coaming and cockpit. The zipper door could be positioned at the companionway. As I type this I realize it may be a pain to add water to the bottom of the screen. But just the weight of the fabric rolled-up a few feet would keep the pesky critters out. You could also use some clothes pins.

Where do you get these things? I have never seen them.<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">
Frank,
Do a Google search on Mosquito Netting or Canopy or something similar and you'll finds tons of places that sell them.
Regarding the netting, I did a search yesterday and found a bunch of websites. The best prices were on ebay... And they had the same photos as Don's posting did... Don are you selling these on the side??? :) The mosquito net tents came in all shapes and sizes... Does anyone have a measurement or at least a close estimate on how big the cabin is? Not sure which size or shape would be best. It would be a great mosquito boom tent as well with velcro at both ends... Hmm, the possibilities are endless.... Karen :)
Great photo just posted of a huge mosquito net that covers the cabin and cockpit in response to my question on making a cockpit bed. Check it out- pictures are worth a 1000 words! Karen
You May want to take a look at this site. Their products are first rate, any work well too. They are pricey but worth it. They even work against noseeums. I like it because it is so easy to use, just drop it in place. No velcro. Just gravity. I have one for the forward hatch, and one for the companionway.
George, Thanks for the info- there wasn't a link or photo but I think i know what you are referring to- I bought one for my forward hatch and just tried to use it a week ago. Unfortunately I think that Catalina sent me one for a 22, because it didn't fit! I have had the thing in the bag for four years now and finally pulled it out to use- aargh! Anyway, part of the previous boat owners goodies included a simple velcro edged screen and it has always worked great and rolled up to store easily... But I am always open to new ideas!!! Thanks, Karen :)
