Hi everyone,

'Sorry to post a truly non-sailing topic, but I am stumped, and I'm out of "experts" to ask ... so ...

I inadvertently deleted the "hot button" in my "Quick Launch Taskbar" that allowed me to go straight to the Windows desktop with just one click. I have tried everything I can think of to get it back, but to no avail. The closest I've come to getting the hot button back is a button that sends me to the desktop folder ... obviously, that's not where I want to go ... I want to go to the desktop to access the program icons I have there.

I'm hoping we've got a computer wizard who can tell me how to get that desktop hot button back ... this is driving me crazy, and it's a short drive ... help!

Thanks!

This most likely will be of no help at all...do you have Windows XP with the restore feature? You might be able to restore your computer to an earlier time when the hot buttom worked? That is the extent of my wizzard skills...Dan #727

You might also try going to Windows Help and typing in "hot button" and it may lead you to what you are looking for in setting up the link again?

Buzz,

If you are running XP or XP PRO send me your email address through my email address link, I think I can guide you through this.
(I asked a whiz friend of mine, but I need to be able to send you an attachment file...)

Buzz,

The desktop shortcut points to:

C:Documents and Settings\"your computer name"Application DataMicrosoftInternet ExplorerQuick Launch

Look there. "your computer name" is just that. If it isn't there, it needs to be recreated.

I used the restore feature ... it restored EVERY hot button I had, EXCEPT the one I wanted

Thanks, Dan ... I used the Windows help topics until I almost went blind ... that's how I got the hot button that takes me to the desktop folder, rather than to the desktop.

OK ... I'm at buzzmaring at AOL dot com ... I'll also send you an email through the Forum.

Thanks for the help!

Hi Rick,

So, if I have the desktop icon (i.e. "hot button") in the quick launch toolbar, the "properties" of the icon should have the path you showed above?

If it doesn't, how do I modify the path?

Thanks!

When your desktop is open, try right click on the task bar, you should see an entry that reads "TOOLBARS". Click that and then click "QUICK LAUNCH"
