I just had my 85 Cat 25 hauled out and towed it home a couple of weeks ago. I am just getting around to cleaning and polishing her up this week. There was some pretty significant marine growth on the keel and the bottom of the hull. I have a 2300 psi pressure washer. Can I use a fan spray pattern and use it to clean my boat hull, or will that damage the gelcoat? That growth looks like it'll be pretty tough to get off.
I think you just learned a lesson about grunge on the hull. The best time to clean the biological crud off is right after you take it out of the water. When it dries, it is almost like green concrete. As to the pressure washer, it sounds like you have the right idea. Don't get too close with the spray and keep it moving. You might want to spray it with a regular hose a couple of times and hour or so before you wash it. It might help soften up the stuff.
You should be okay Eric. That is what most yards use to hose off the boat. They will hose it off right in the slings. This is your best bet, as everything is still nice and wet and accesible.
