I know there is probably an official nautical name for this item, but I need to replace the screw down plug that keeps the mainsail from sliding out of the mast slot. Does anybody know where I can find this item and it's official name?
"Sail track stop" is what I think you are looking for. You may want to look on the web site for the mast gates that someone had fabricated. They cover the slot hole that the boom goes into and lets the sail lower itself below the slot. I got them and love them.
Be sure to buy the ones with the round slug. My advice is to buy an extra or two--I have sacrificed more than one to Poseidon, but his appetite is insatiable.
Thanks everybody for the assistance. My plan is buy the sail track plugs at WM for now and then install these gates (URL below) so I can do clean reefing. I leave my mainsail on for the summer so I won't need to take it on and off often. In an archived thread someone suggested using aluminum carpet edges to fabricate sail slot gates. I might check into that too.

(Did that too--direct from Joe.) I hear CD includes a drill bit and a tap for doing the perfect installation. I don't think you can beat that.

Dave—Thanks for the input on the carpet thresholds. Joe's gates are not that expensive and would probaly save me a lot of time futzing with something else. Fact is I've got bigger fish to fry on my C-25, including actual sailing! I'll take your advice and get the CD gates.
