I put in a new head last year, and a new line to the tank, and a vent line with a one way check valve on the vent line. Before I did the work I had a problem with the holding tank filling quickly. My problem was rain water entering from the deck into the vent line and filling the tank so I added a one way check valve and it solved the problem.

I can see the clear vent line and below the check valve the line is clear and clean, and above it it is filled with water and black mold.

It vents properly but fills with water above the check valve. The holding tank now fills in an appropriate amount of time.

I wonder if the same thing happens with the water holding tank?

Ray;

My '82 had the same problem with the holding tank filling with rain water, but only when it was on the trailer with the bow down a little, which makes the vent location the low spot. When it is afloat, the vent is above the area where the water flows to the scuppers normally, and it is not a problem at all. Where is your vent located? Mine is closer to the portlight than the edge of the boat.

As for the fresh water tank vent, mine is a tube with a fitting on the end that runs up between the hull and the cabin liner and is held in place by a screw through the liner. It does not go through the deck to the outside. If your tank is under the starboard settee, look behind your back cushion for a single screw head about half way up.

The vent fixture is the same on both sides, the same design, and just forward of the fill/pump out fittings. Sounds like the water tank vent would probably leak also. I'll have a look at it when I get that Round Tuit.

I'd like to remove that water tank and lines.

My holding tank vent is just below the rubrail.
