Is there any trick to running electrical wires from the panel to the battery compartment on a 250? I want power my GPS from the panel not directly from the battery like I did last year. I also want to connect my GPS to the VHF for DSC.

Thanks Phil

If you think you can, or think you can't, pretty soon you find out your are right! H.F.

Phil, not a lot of difference in the electrical layout of the WK and the SK, so our boat wiring is similar. However the position of your VHF and GPS may not be the same.

If you remove the wooden panel that is between the aft battery area, you have access to the huge space on either side of the aft berth below the combings.

I used an electricians 'fish' or 'snake' to reach from the space behind the electrical panel above the galley, down and aft to the battery bay.

We have a Wheel and our GPS is mounted on the Pedestal Guard, so our GPS power and the GPS/VHF connecting wires run from the electrical panel, aft above the aft berth, then they are P-clipped along the aft edge of the liner above the wooden battery bay bulkhead, then they pass through the gap in the center of the bulkhead and up into the cockpit decking where the Pedestal tubes penetrate the deck.

Our VHF is mounted above the galley just inboard of the galley light. I removed the panel to which the light is attached, then snaked from there down the stbd side to the electrical panel space.

Really was not a big deal. The original cables from the battery bay to the electrical panel were semi glassed in on JD. As I installed a Off/1/both/2 battery switch inside the stbd cockpit locker, I had to run new cables, again, not a major issue.

Thanks, yes my GPS is on the Pedestal Guard and the VHF is like yours near the galley light. I will bring a snake next time.

I am also thinking of running wires for my battery charger from the battery charger to cabinet under the sink, just to make charging easier. Pull the plug from under the sink and plug it in.

Thanks!

Phil, we mounted our new battery charger on the stbd side of the aft bulkhead.

Several folks here have split their boat's aft bulkhead into at least 2 parts. Ours is now split so that if I remove the port side of the bulkhead, then the stbd side remains in place and that has the battery charger mounted on it. I saw someone had split the bulkhead into 3 parts and that seems even better. Getting the port side of the bulkhead out of place is the toughest part of removing the bulkhead. I'll probably make that mod after new year.
