We bought our 1987 C25 last fall and need to pull it out of the lake soon for some maintenance. It is a SR wing keel and I have a feeling our 1999 2WD F250 won’t have enough clearance to get the trailer far enough into the water to seat the boat and pull it out. I’m thinking a couple of 3-inch tow straps to lower the trailer into the water would work and pull it out, using the wheel trailer jack. Any good advice or warnings? Thanks!

I have read about a lot of people doing this. Haven't tried myself as my trailer has tongue extension. My only concern would be having someone guide the trailer jack wheel so as to keep it from trying to turn into the guy next to me. I think with a little caution and watching it should work. Big variable is the angle of your launch and if it is smooth. But I'm obviously not an expert. I can hardly wait to put mine in water 2 weeks from now in Cape Coral, FL. where the ramp is pretty steep.

Yes, it’s really not difficult but does require some prep. Because of drought over the past several years it’s pretty much been my only option for the C25 and the 250. Run a search here and there should be some discussions. If at all possible I’d recommend against the tongue jack wheel. I tried it once— it’s very difficult to control and tends to stray around the ramp rather than back in a straight line. The jack on my trailer doesn’t have a wheel anyway, so I fashioned a suitable wheel from some scraps. It ain’t pretty but it works. If you have no choice just take it extremely slowly. I use a 20ft 30k lb strap, but vary the length based on conditions.
These photos are from the first time I strap launched.
In this photo the water was so low and the ramp so shallow I still ended up with the axle in the water!

We have 1987 wk c25 5696 in nevada city ca. we launch and retrieve easily with a strap, chocks and a retractable launch wheel. In fact we pulled the previous extension off and it sits in the weeds at the end of our driveway now. the wheel on the tongue jack will not be able to handle the weight when moving under load and is not fixed and will turn in every direction except the one you want. add a tire fixed wheel that raises up for trailering and down for launching. you will still be using your tongue jack to get right height to connect and disconnect from truck/trailer coupler. our boat is off trailer right now so can send pics if you want.

A picture would be great! Did you create the tire assembly from scratch or are there ones available to bolt on? So, you have both the steel tongue wheel and tire attached? When the boat was last launched, a guy used a tow strap attached to his van and slowly let it roll down the ramp on the tongue jack wheel. But it worries me. Do you sail at Folsom? If so, I know you deal with low lake levels. We’re in Redding. C25 5588. Thanks!

Right now we are sailing at Lake Pleasant, AZ as Snowbirds. Trailer sailed places in So. CA to British Columbia over the past 30 years in our C22 and C25. Even sailed Whiskeytown lots of times racing there, but not for last two years. Had a welder attach a vertical piece of channel for the wheel piece to raise and lower vertically with holes that a pin locks it in. The trailer tongue jack doesn't have a wheel. It is vertical and comes down on a pad. I have a good picture of boat on trailer attached to tow vehicle just before we left CA. Going sailing tomorrow but will try to get over to trailer storage and take some close up pics.

These mounts seems to be made in Australia and don't ship to the US.I put the video up mainly just for possible ideas. They do a lot of beach launching there I guess. I could not find anything like it that is sold here. Doesn't look to be hard to make if your a welder or have access to a shop that does but it does look like you would have to make it or something like it like TEM58 did.

Yes I think it’s going to have to be a “project.” Thanks for the research and input!
