Had the first sail of the year yesterday…. We arrived at the boat, still on the hard, around 1 pm. The bulk of the storms had already moved through but it was still cold, rainy, moderately windy, wet and did I say cold? The yard crew at Whiskey Island finally got us into the water around 3 and. After bending on the Main - (lost one mast gate to the lake right off the bat, but since we have bigger slugs and only use one gate, we had spare in reserve.) The new motor fired right up and we were off.
All in all, it was an uneventful sail. We went inside the break wall to 72nd street. Went with the main and the 90 % jib, there were impending storms so we didn’t want to put up any more cloth just in case the heavy stuff started coming down. Then motored back to the yacht club to tie off to our new slip. (motor has a 10 hour break in period so we figured we could use up one of the hours just messing around)
There weren’t too many modifications this year, so there really wasn’t much to check out with a sea trial.
The new guy worked very well in the galley and knows his way around the ice box and booze rack too. I am not sure where Harvey found him, but anybody that shows up with a 12 pack in tow is a plus in my book. He’ll be out sailing with us again.
Now I feel guilty for my first sail of the year (last weekend). Shorts and a tee shirt and I got a sunburn! What the UV rating of that suit you've got on?

Kirk, That's just my moderate foul weather gear, I would guess it blocks out about 99.9999 percent of any UV rays. I also have a cheap summer set where I don't really need warmth and a heavy set of gear - for the Late November Sails, when being in the water is actually safer and warmer than being on deck and the snow needs to be shovelled out of the cockpit. The mobility in that thing isn't exactly stellar.
On a side note - I did where shorts and a t-shirt, just not my top layer.

Picked that very bottle up for 4 bucks in a little old off the beaten path liquor store on the west end of Grand Bahama. Surprisingly, its lasted us 3 years.
