I bought a new Windex and want to confirm something before I do anything. I'm suspecting that I'm really supposed to drill into the masthead for the mounting piece of the windex. Rather than do that, what do you think of epoxying the base for the windex to the top of the mast light? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
On a previous boat, I mounted one of those cheap red windvanes (Spar-Fly?) through the top of a masthead tri-color light. It worked just fine. I did it by drilling a hole in the light, and sealing the windvane shaft with silicon.
I screwed mine into the side of the masthead crane opposite the antenna, and its held fine. There wasn't a lot of 'real estate' on the crane to work with, but the windex does miss both the light and the antenna by just enough.
If you have an antenna, you'll want to check for clearance first, and remember that the antenna can move around with the wind and what not.
