My dock is located in a lagoon on a lake that is invested with Eurasian Watermilfoil which seriously fouls on the rudder of my C25 SK boat as I leave the lagoon. I have been looking for a kick up rudder to prevent this and just discovered that an outfit called IdaSailor sells a kick up rudder for the C25. Has anyone had experience with this rudder? The company says they offer a “lifetime warranty on the rudder assembly and pintles”. It seems like it would solve my problem, but I want to be sure it performs well.

Thanks for any help or advice you can offer.

Bob,

Sorry I don't really have anything to contribute. The IdaSailor rudder you mention has come up in threads before from time to time. I don't think I ever saw where anyone had actually bought and/or tried one. I'm interested in it, but have just recently (3 years) purchased the balanced rudder. So I can't justify the expense, nor do I want to try a new rudder without being able to hear some testemonials about it. If you do get any responses, I'd be interested in hearing them too.

Good Luck.

Ben,
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I called IdaSailor and spoke with Joel who seems to own or run the operation. He says he has sold about 15 or so for the C25 and has had no complaints or returns. He also says the rudder is balanced and takes away a lot of the weather helm, but still has plenty of feel. I think I will try it as it is difficult to get in and out of our lagoon with the laod of Milfoil I pick up on my standard rudder. The OB engine (Yamaha 4 cyc 8 HP) can't haul the load. I'll take pictures and file a report on this forum and let everyone know my experience.

Thanks,
-- Bob

Please catch the thread on voting on rudder rules. No, I don't have the "kick-up", but I think these IdaSailor products may be the rudders of the future...I am so trying to get them declared "legal" for racing. Please express your opinion on that thread....

Hopefully, I will have some input on the IdaSailor C25 (non-kick-up) relatively soon...

A kick-up rudder is a pretty common item on various shoal boats around here in SW FL, where there is a great deal of attractive shallow water and beaches. It would be nice to find such an item for the C25, I have often thought of trying to make one out of plywood, etc, but never got up the gumption, Fair winds, Ron srsk Orion #2343 in Venice, FL
