Is there an easy way to remove the sliding hatch for maintenance? This one has had me stumped.

Only way I know is to remove one or both of the hatch slides. Heck, might as well refinish/rebed them while you are at it.

I was hoping there was an easy way. I am interested in a plexiglass top and am thinking about a custom seahood.

Thanks, Tom.

Ever noticed that some main hatches slide under a cover rather than simply along the top? Catalina 28s and 30s do it. That cover is called a sea hood. You are thinking about replacing your sliding main hatch with another material. IMHO it sounds like a mistake. I recently changed boats and now have the Lexan forward hatch, the solar heat gain is really bad. Also, your lack of non-skid on lexan or any other similar material will be very dangerous.

Frank, Thanks for the advice and warning. I am moving "with" my boat to Washinton st soon. Heat and light gain is one of the goals. I was thinking about something like the one on the 250.

I would never do anything to the stock hatch and will keep it. Just thinking about a new project.

Tom.

I was born in Spokane, your solar gain goal is a good one. Your deck will be wet a lot, what is your plan for non-skid?
