I'm looking for the best place on the mast to hook up a block (or some such device) to raise my spinnaker. anyone have a good system for pulling this off? drilling through the mast doesn't seem to make much sense, since i have no idea how to get the nuts (or backing plate) down into the mast.
The mast truck has a pin for adding a spinnaker block and halyard...unfortunately, the CDI furler fouls if its used. So, you will need to devise a forward extension to the mast truck of about 4 inches for the halyard block. Not sure how others have accomplished this... I milled an aluminum outrigging arm and attached it with the existing pin.
The halyard will likely need to store to the bow pulpit to avoid fouling the furler.
I added a lead block to the top of the mast block to bring the existing jib halyard out the top of the mast.
I replaced the two pins at the front of the mast block with SS bolts and used these to attach an extension fabricated from 5/8 x 3/16 aluminum from Home Depot. It is bent in a "U" about 8 inches long and 3 inches wide. I bent another "U" to fit inside this one and laminated the two together with 10-32 screws tapped into the inside "U."
I added a swivel block to the end of the "U" and this brings the halyard out and away from the roller furler.
Now I need to figure out the best way to control the bottom of the spinnaker at the front of the boat.
