Yes. My wife spent hours cleaning and prepping an area of the cockpit. The IG cleaners worked well. The final product looked OK. It just did not last very long. My wife was pretty disapointed after all her hard work.
I hope I have better luck. I'll let you know. I really like Collonite products, but, they're very hard to apply. You just wipe on the Island Girl stuff. Did you try any products you liked better?
John: I used to use Island Girl products on my life lines, shore power cords and fenders when I lived in the Bay Area. I continued to use them on my new C250 when I moved up here. I found that my life lines and fenders began to crack from the exposure to the heat and UV rays. The life lines looked just like someone had taken a torch to them. It was so bad that I went down to West Marine and bought some cable covers and put them over the lines and I have not used the product again. Robert
The following is from Practical Sailor's most recent test:
A total of 28 waxes were tested. These results are as noted in the narrative:
Best: Collinite #885
2nd: Meguiar's Mirror Glaze
3rd: 3M Ultra Performance
Others rated as 'good':
Turtle Wax 2000
Boat Life Wax
Star Bright Presoftened
Star Bright Polish with Teflon
West Marine Carnauba
NOTE: All the above are paste waxes.
Two non paste waxes did well:
Poly Glow Liquid and WM Teflon Boat Polish...PS noted that some liquid plastics discolor and deteriorate and are hard to remove. Several testers liked these polishes because they went on very easily and had a good initial shine. However, PS prefers a good hard wax which can be removed easily in order to apply a new coat.
Thanks folks. That information is just what I was looking for. I was afraid that the Island Girl stuff might be too good to be true. I guess if you want it to look good its just gonna take some work.
