The 150 furling genny on '78 standard rig finally succumbed to old age and mother nature. I cruise/daysail along the bays and ICW of the FL gulf coast where winds vary from 5 to 25. The ADmiral doesn't appreciate heeling and I often single hand so I'm leaning toward a 135 with a foam padded luff instead of another 150. Will I sacrifice much performance by changing to a 135? How much of an asset is a padded luff? How well do they hold up? If anyone has purchased a new genoa recently, where did you get it and how satisfied are you with the sail? All replies will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I bought the 135 genoa last January along with a harken furler. I like it. The foam luff gives you very good shape up to about a 30 per cent furl. I don't see any difference except in the lightest airs. My one complaint, a common one, is that it is a deck sweeper and provides no visibility.
