Fortunately, here in the land of Follywood we keep our boats in slips 24/7 year 'round. I guess I'm fortunte that the rudder has to be replaced. Made to order, BTW, since they are not stock items.

We hauled our boat today, it's a '96 with an new generaton 3 rudder, unfortunately we found a bad crack between the pintails. We have had this rudder for about 3 years and had it back to Catalina to have the crack repaired a year or so ago. I'm not quite sure what to do now; go back to the gen 2 rudder, return the rudder to Catalina again, or try to do a repair myself.
The first time it cracked, I routed out the cracked jell coat and replaced it with Marine-tex. That lasted about one sail. I think that if I do it again, the repair will have to include sturctural material like glass cloth or matt. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I missed out on a second generation rudder on "E" bay last fall. The bidding ended at 2:45 a.m. e.d.t. I left a reasonable bid out there and of course it was topped. I still have my dependable 1st generation rudder installed, however the first lady has approved an IDA sailor rudder for my XMAS gift. Before proceeding I would like to know any long term thoughts on this rudder. It will be a kickup for a C250 WB. Also the lead time it took for rudder to be delivered after order was placed. THANX in advance once again. On the hard in upstate N.Y.

Bear, I have the IDA Kick-Up and am very pleased. It is indestructible. If you buy one you might want to get the Tiller as well. It is different than your stock Tiller mounting. If not you would have to drill some holes. The Pintles can be pre-drilled and mounted if you specify otherwise you have to drill them. I also have a second generation rudder that I would sell if anyone is interested.
