Does anyone know how often the Tech Tips section is updated? Seems like it's been a very long time. I've found some great stuff in there and would like to see more.

What we need is a volunteer tech tips editor. Spike and Paul are doing webmaster duties. However they don't have time and Spike is nbot qualified to make Tech Tips from our "best - of" threads. We have tried several ideas but nothing has worked so far.
There is no question of the value of this forum. However, the volume of information on this site is becoming unwieldy. Search's are often slow, time out, return extraneous info and assume the user knows the keywords on which to search. As a result, topics are often readdressed both because the institutional memory is difficult to access and because new participants are constantly joining the forum. I’m not questioning the need for the forum, I'm just agreeing that updated reference materials are needed.
To brainstorm....one possible model would be to address this as a winter project that relies on volunteers and does not overly impact any single individual. Identify a handful of key topics, e.g., bottom maintenance, electrics, sail trim, etc. Seek volunteers from the more experienced members of the Association to act as coordinators/editors for each of the topics. Volunteers from the less experienced members could then be "assigned" to each topic leader, to do the basic searches and first stage of filtering under the topic leaders’ direction. No volunteers, no summaries. The topic leaders at some point would assume final editing responsibility but only to a level agreed to or that their time/interest would allow. Some coordination amongst the topic leaders would be required as to products and schedules, but there is no reason to expect a "standardized" product other than an address under which the summarized information could be accessed. It could work...given a list of topics can be agreed to ...and if it does, additional topics could be added/updated/refined next winter.
